Appeal Court Places Saakashvili Under Night House Arrest

Appeal Court Places Saakashvili Under Night House Arrest

The Kyiv Court of Appeal has placed former president of Georgia and leader of the Movement of New Forces party Mikheil Saakashvili under night house arrest.

This was announced by the presiding judge, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The court partially granted a request by the prosecutor's office to place Saakashvili under round-the-clock house arrest.

The court ordered Saakashvili to stay in his place of residence from 10:00 p.m. to 07:00 a.m., the following day.

The court's decision prompted indignation on the part of Saakashvili and his supporters, who were present in the courtroom.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Judge Larysa Tsokol of the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv refused to place Saakashvili under round-the-clock house arrest on December 10, 2017.

The Prosecutor General's Office stated on December 5 that Saakashvili was suspected of aiding members of criminal organizations.
