President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says populism and fake news are most dangerous problems facing Europe at present.

He gave the position in his speech at a session of the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"You should remember the attacks on Ukraine from the side of Russia by means of propaganda campaigns and fake news. I personally think that fake news and populism are most dangerous things facing not only Ukraine but Europe also," he said.

President Poroshenko said he was glad that the issues of information security and countering fake news are in the agenda of the European Commission and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and that the European Union and the United States tackle the problems at the legislative level.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Poroshenko called on Ukrainian mass media to submit their proposals to fight fake news.

The Presidential Administration states that the letters of President Petro Poroshenko addressed to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and later reported on by a Georgian TV channel, Rustavi 2, were a hoax.

The faction of the Solidarity Bloc of Petro Poroshenko in the Verkhovna Rada called for adoption of a law to fight fake news.
