On Monday, January 22, Ukraine celebrates the National Unity Day.
In 2018, Ukraine celebrates the 99th anniversary of declaration of the Act on reunification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and West Ukrainian People's Republic. This year the Unity Day coincides with the 100th anniversary of the day of declaration of independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic by the IV Universal of the Central Rada.
At 10.30 a.m. the leadership of Ukraine will lay flowers at Shevchenko Monument and Hrushevskyi Monument in Kyiv.
At 12 p.m. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will take part in a grand meeting on the occasion of the National Unity Day and the 100th anniversary of the day of declaration of independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the official state status was received by the National Unity Day with the Order of former President of Ukraine (1994-2005) Leonid Kuchma dated January 21, 1999.
In December, 2011, former President Viktor Yanukovych cancelled the Freedom Day, celebrated on November 22, and the National Unity Day, celebrated on January 22, and established the National Day of Unity and Freedom, celebrated on January 22.
In November, 2014, President Petro Poroshenko established the Dignity and Freedom Day for November 21, having reintroduced the celebration of the Unity Day on January 22.
