President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has stated that President of the United States Donald Trump has suggested moving the negotiations on settlement of the conflict in Donbas (eastern Ukraine) from Minsk (the capital of the Republic of Belarus) to Astana (the capital of Kazakhstan).

Nazarbayev said this at a joint press conference with Trump at New York (the United States) held after the January 18 UN Security Council's meeting, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We have discussed that the Minsk-1 negotiations process had hit a deadlock and that the way to revive the talks would be to start the Minsk-2, when he (Donald Trump) suggested starting it at a different place. I agreed... It had to be done in Kazakhstan first time. So we agreed to start working in that direction," Nazarbayev said.

"The Minsk Agreements have stuck, I think. Now it is time to deploy peacekeepers in Donbas so that they outline the border. And generally work towards reaching agreement between the sides," Nazarbayev continued.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the United States expected another exchange of prisoners and implementation of the Minsk Agreements in 2018.
