Court Orders SBU Return USD 13,500, 2 DELL Monitors Seized From ForkLog Blockchain Magazine During Search

The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has ruled the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to return to the ForkLog major blockchain magazine USD 13,500 and two DELL monitors seized from it during a raid by law-enforcers.

The Ukrainian News Agency learnt this from the ForkLog editorial office.

According to the report, the magazine's lawyers continue fighting for return of the other seized property.

The statement from the magazine said that the seized property belongs to Yevhen Muratov, one of the magazine's representatives.

Furthermore, the magazine said in the statement that on January 24 the SBU invited two magazine's representatives, Yevhen Muratov and Vladyslav Likhuta, for questioning as witnesses under the same criminal case for which the SBU earlier invited to testify magazine's founder, Anatolii Kaplan.

In addition, the magazine reported that from January 10 to 13, the ForkLog online platform was targeted by a massive, diversified DDoS attack.

The attackers did not try to establish a contact with the magazine's editorial office, did not demand a ransom or made any other claims.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in December, SBU officers during a search conducted at the place of Anatolii Kaplan, founder of the ForkLog major blockchain magazine, seized electronic storage devices with cryptocurrencies on them.

The search was conducted on the grounds of a criminal proceeding opened against a group of individuals from the United States and Ukraine, who, according to the investigation, had developed a criminal scheme for illegal acquisition of funds from payment cards.

In November, the Verkhovna Rada adopted as a whole the bill No.7275 temporarily forbidding seizing electronic information storage devices or parts thereof, including mobile phones, with the exception when the information stored on them is required for an expert investigation or such devices / mobile phones had been obtained through a criminal offense and are a tool of crime.

The bill was designed by the Ministry of Justice to protect entrepreneurs from illegitimate raids of law enforcers.
