Russia Not To Send Delegation To PACE In 2018

Representative of Ukraine at the Council of Europe Dmytro Kuleba states that Russia will not send its delegation to the Parliament Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in 2018.

Kuleba wrote this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to Kuleba, that Russia will not take seat at the PACE this year is credited as a success of Ukrainian diplomats who persuaded the majority of the members not to return a voting mandate to Russia even though some members of the assembly were ready to bring Russia back at the table as PACE member.

At the same time, Kuleba said that Russia would continue applying efforts to reinstate its voting right at the PACE in 2019.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered that possible return of the Russian Federation to the PACE as a voting member before Russian-backed armed separatist forces and Russian military hardware are pulled out from the territory of Ukraine contradicts the international law.

In April 2014, PACE suspended a voting right of the Russian delegation due to the Russian illegal annexation of Crimea and the launch of military aggression; since then, the PACE several times prolonged the ban.
