Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk has demanded the resignation of Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko.

Danyliuk made the demand at a news briefing on Friday, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The accidental meeting between Yurii Lutsenko and Ihor Kolomoiskyi on the eve of hearings at an English court raises many questions. In addition, the prosecutor general has discredited himself through his attacks on new anti-corruption bodies and his inability to bring important cases to trial. Thus, he is discrediting the president of Ukraine and the parliament, which entrusted him with such an important role and function, as well as the government as a whole, in the eyes of Ukraine's international partners. Therefore, he should resign. I demand his resignation," said Danyliuk.

The minister said that backroom agreements in the PrivatBank investigation case were unacceptable.

According to him, the Prosecutor-General's Office is initiating an investigation of employees of the National Bank of Ukraine and the Finance Ministry instead of investigating the former management and owners of PrivatBank.

He noted that the government has already spent UAH 140 billion on nationalization and recapitalization of PrivatBank. According to him, it is important to return these funds into the state budget.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Danyliuk has accused the Prosecutor General's Office of trying to obstruct the PrivatBank investigation.
