SBGS To Record Biometric Data Of Foreign Visitors, Individuals Without Citizenship Staring 2018

The State Border Guard Service (SBGS) intends to launch a service that will record biometric data of foreign citizens and individuals without citizenship coming to Ukraine, starting from January 1, 2018.

The Ukrainian News Agency learnt this from printed materials handed out at the start of the presentation of a system of recording of biometric data.

For the system to work efficiently, 157 checkpoints in the mainland Ukraine and three checkpoints with the Russian-annexed Crimea must be equipped with special equipment.

In addition, of the total UAH 532 million of the required financing, the project so far received only UAH 300 million.

The project envisages that passports of foreign citizens will be checked through the Interpol database, while special readers will read fingerprints and store the data in the data collection center.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the State Migration Service prepared a provision on the system of biometric verification of citizens at the state border.
