President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law that cancels the nonworking day on May 2 and establishes December 25 (Christmas in the Gregorian calendar) as a nonworking day.
This is stated on the webpage for the relevant draft law (No. 5496) on the website of the parliament, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The law will enter into force on the day following its publication.
One nonworking day will now be introduced on Labor Day (May 1) instead of two nonworking days (May 1 and 2) on the Workers' Solidarity Day.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, when asked about the possibility of December 25 as a public holiday at a press conference in January 2016, Poroshenko said it was not the business of the secular authorities to impose dates of celebration.
He added that imposition of a celebratory day on the people could split the society.
