The Kyiv City Council has addressed the Verkhovna Rada, President Petro Poroshenko and the National Bank of Ukraine with a request to create a legislative base in Ukraine that would allow saving and using cryptocurrencies and, moreover, to launch a national cryptocurrency.

A respective bill was backed by 84 members of the council while 61 votes were enough to pass the decision, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, the bill criticizes the obstruction of use of cryptocurrencies as the useless loss of time.

The bill suggests making legal such tools and procedures of digital assets as blockchain, crowdfunding and other techniques.

The Kyiv City Council also urged the Rada and the National Bank to start debates concerning launching a national cryptocurrency.

The bill was registered in the Verkhovna Rada by Mayor of Kyiv Vitalii Klitschko.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the NBU considered the Bitcoin cryptocurrency dangerous to keeping savings by the population, and said it would not take a responsibility for possible risks and losses entailed in the use of digital currencies in transactions.
