Ukrtelecom To Discontinue Telegraph Communication Services Starting March 1, 2018

The Ukrtelecom telecommunications provider private joint-stock company has decided to discontinue providing telegraph communication services to all categories of its customers starting March 1, 2018.

The company has said this in a statement published in the Uriadovyi Kurier governmental newspaper, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The decision was taken in view of considerable reduction in the number of telegrams sent via the service, which attributes to the development of electronic channels of communication and rapidly spreading use of a digital signature.

Another reason for dropping the service is outdated equipment and the lack of maintenance.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the first nine months of 2017, Ukrtelecom increased its EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation & amortization) ratio by 6% to UAH 1.382 billion year over year.

According to preliminary (unchecked) data, in 2016, the company made the net profit of UAH 244 million.

In the first nine months of 2016, the company reduced its net profit by 49% or UAH 244 million to UAH 249 million.

At the same time, in the first nine months of 2016, Ukrtelecom reported a revenue of UAH 4.98 billion, by 0.5% (UAH 24 million) below the levels of 2015.

In October 2013, System Capital Management company (Donetsk) completed the acquisition of 92.79% stake in Ukrtelecom from EPIC (Austria).
