Ukrainian Radio Journalist Sharoiko Arrested In Belarus On Suspicion Of Espionage

Belarusian law enforcement agencies have arrested Pavlo Sharoiko, a journalist of Ukrainian Radio, on suspicion of espionage.

Chairperson of the National Public Broadcasting of Ukraine (NPBU) Zurab Alasania announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to him, the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine has not responded to an inquiry from the Ukrainian side.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in August 2017, offices of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) arrested Ukrainian citizen Pavlo Hryb on suspicion of terrorist activity.

Hryb's father said his son went to Gomel (Belarus) to meet a girlfriend who he had encountered in online social media.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded to Ukraine's request for information about the circumstances of the detention of 19-year-old Ukrainian citizen Pavlo Hryb in Gomel (Belarus) by Russian security forces.
