The U.S. Senate ha approved a draft defense budget for 2018, which envisages allocation of USD 350 million to Ukraine.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the United States announced this in a statement on its Facebook page, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The statement reads that the draft defense budget has been sent to U.S. President Donald Trump for signing.
The statement reads that the bill also allows provision of lethal defensive weapon to Ukraine.
For the first time it is proposed at the legislative level to provide Ukraine with defensive means like radar aids of air defense, naval countermine equipment, ships for coastal operations.
The bill also allows the use of the defense budget of the United States for medical rehabilitation of Ukrainian military, training of military medical staff, and for enhancing capacities of the Ukrainian air force and navy.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, earlier in November, the United States House of Representatives approved a draft defense budget for 2018, which envisages allocation of USD 350 million to Ukraine.
On November 15, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell discussed the possibility of provision of lethal weapon to Ukraine.
