Suspects In Case On Embezzlement During Procurement Of Backpacks For National Guard Used UAH 3 Million Of UAH 14 Million Paid To Manufacture Backpacks

The suspects in the case on embezzlement of UAH 14 million during procurement of backpacks for the National Guard by the Ministry of Interior Affairs used UAH 3 million of the sum paid to manufacture the backpacks.

A source in law enforcement agencies said this to Ukrainian News Agency.

"They managed to convert the sum into cash through a conversion center and manufactured these backpacks for a part of the sum - close to UAH 3 million," the source said.

According to the source, the backpacks did not meet specifications.

The source says the scheme was invented by former deputy interior minister Serhii Chobotar.

According to the source, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov might have been not aware of the "operation."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 1, the Solomiyanskyi District Court of Kyiv refused to arrest Oleksandr Avakov and let him go free on personal obligation.

On November 1, the court released on his own recognizance Volodymyr Lytvyn, the third suspect in the case of embezzlement during state procurement of backpacks for the National Guard.

On November 2, the court refused to arrest Serhii Chebotar and let him walk out of detention unit under a personal obligation.

Oleksandr Avakov and Volodymyr Lytvyn are obliged to wear electronic bracelets.
