The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has refused to dismiss Interior Minister Arsen Avakov.
With 226 votes required, 31 MPs voted for resolution No.5041.
Interior Minister Avakov was not present in the plenary session hall of the parliament.
The parliamentary committee for provision of law enforcement activities said in its findings on the resolution that the law does not provide for dismissal of a member of the Cabinet of Ministers by the Verkhovna Rada on its initiative. Article 18 of the law on the Cabinet of Ministers envisages that the parliament can only accept resignation of a member of the Cabinet of Ministers.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 1, the Solomiyanskyi District Court of Kyiv refused to arrest and let go free under a personal obligation and an obligation to wear an electronic bracelet son of the interior minister Oleksandr and former deputy interior minister Chebotar suspected of embezzlement of UAH 14 million during procurement of backpacks for the National Guard servicemen on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
