SACPO Appeals Court's Refusal To Arrest Avakov's Son, Ex-Deputy Internal Minister Chebotar

SACPO Appeals Court's Refusal To Arrest Avakov's Son, Ex-Deputy Internal Minister Chebotar

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SACPO) has appealed against the court's decision in which it refused to arrest Minister of the Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov's son Oleksandr and former deputy internal minister Serhii Chebotar accused of defrauding the state of UAH 14 million.

Press service of the SACPO has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, the SACPO considers the restrictive measures imposed by the court too mild and inadequate to the crime they are suspected of and the risks entailed.

SACPO prosecutors in their claim insist on remanding the suspects.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 1, the Solomiyanskyi District Court of Kyiv refused to arrest and let go free under a personal obligation and an obligation to wear an electronic bracelet son of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov Oleksandr and former deputy interior minister Chebotar accused of stealing UAH 14 million during state acquisition of backpacks for the National Guard servicemen on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
