The Kyivskyi District Court of Kharkiv has ordered detention of 20-year-old Olena Zaitseva for two months on suspicion of driving a Lexus vehicle into 11 pedestrians in downtown Kharkiv.
The presiding judge announced the corresponding decision, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The judge granted prosecutors' petition to authorize detention of Zaitseva for two months.
Zaitseva's lawyer asked the court to place her under house arrest.
The judge stressed that the police had stopped the suspect six times the past two years for violation of traffic rules.
The judge also determined that there was a risk of Zaitseva fleeing abroad or exerting pressure on witnesses.
In connection with this, the court decided to order detention of the 20-year-old student until December 16 (inclusive) without bail.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Friday, the prosecutor's office served Zaitseva with suspicion of causing an accident that resulted in the deaths of five pedestrians and the hospitalization of six on October 18.
