Ukraine and Hungary have agreed to implement language terms of the Law of Ukraine On Education.

Education and Science Minister of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych said this in the course of a joint briefing with Foreign Affairs Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and Minister of Human Resources of Hungary Zoltan Balog, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Ukraine stands by its international obligations, in particular, the bilateral agreements with Hungary regarding the fact that representatives of national minorities in our countries can obtain education in native language at all stages of education," she said while reading the joint statement of the parties.

Besides, Ukraine and Hungary agreed that a model to be available for the children in Hungarian schools will be elaborated within consultations with the Hungarian community.

In particular, possible correction in the process of education will be introduced into new wording of the Law of Ukraine On General Secondary Education, curricula for respective schools, as well as into new textbooks and training procedures of teachers.

Moreover, the parties agreed that Ukraine would not take unilateral steps to change the reaching process in the Hungarian schools before receiving conclusions from the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission).

At the same time, Ukraine confirms its position regarding the necessity to expand learning Ukrainian language, thus, the number of Ukrainian language hours will be increased.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the new wording of the Law of Ukraine On Education took effect on September 28.

The Republic of Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Republic of Moldova have expressed concerns over the fact that language terms of the new wording of the Law of Ukraine On Education violate rights of national minorities in Ukraine.

Hungary expressed intention to block any European integration initiatives of Ukraine due to the language terms in the new wording of the education law.

President Petro Poroshenko is confident that the conclusions of the Venice Commission will allow removing all contradicting terms within the law on education.
