NACB, SACPO Arrest Deputy Defense Minister Pavlovskyi On Suspicion Of Involvement In Embezzlement Of UAH 149 Million

The National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine (NACB) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO) have arrested Deputy Defense Minister Ihor Pavlovskyi on suspicion of involvement in the embezzlement of UAH 149 million during procurement of fuel for the Defense Ministry.

A source in law enforcement agencies announced this to Ukrainian News Agency.

According to the source, Pavlovskyi was arrested on Wednesday.

According to the press service of the NACB, detectives and prosecutors have performed a number of searches and arrested director of the department for public procurements of the Defense Ministry.

The investigation has established that the Defense Ministry and a winner in a tender concluded 14 contracts on May 13 and May 18, 2016, on supplies of fuel for a total sum of over UAH 1 billion.

According to the theory of the investigation, in June - August 2016 the Defense Ministry and the company illegally concluded additional agreements to increase the price by 16% and additional UAH 139.3 million of budget funds was transferred to the supplier.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office has completed investigation into embezzlement of UAH 34 million during procurement of helmets and flak jackets.
