Rada Adopts 3 New Procedural Codes

Verkhovna Rada, Economic Procedural Code, Civil Procedural Code, Administrative Procedural Code

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted new Economic Procedural Code, Civil Procedural Code and Administrative Procedural Code.

A total of 234 parliamentary members backed the respective bill No.6232, when 226 votes are enough to pass the decision, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The law also regulates intellectual rights in the activity of the new Supreme and High Courts on intellectual property.

In particular, the law set certain limitations to filing cassation appeals by citizens to Supreme Court.

In a bid to modernize the judicial system, there were new notions introduced such as a model case and a standard case, as well as institutes of writ proceedings and pre-trial settlement of disputes.

The new law imposed additional fines for abuse of procedural rights on litigating parties.

The law occupied over 800 pages and was divided into five separate documents.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the High Council of Public Justice advised President Petro Poroshenko appointing 111 judges to Supreme Court from 120 shortlisted winners of a contest.

The contest of judges to Supreme Court started on November 7, 2016.
