Russian Court In Crimea Sentences Deputy Chairperson Of Crimean Tatars' Mejlis Umerov To 2 Years In Penal Colony Settlement

The court of the Russian Federation in the annexed by it Crimea sentenced Deputy Chairperson of Mejlis of Crimean Tatars Ilmi Umerov to two years in a penal colony settlement and banned him for two years from public activity.

Lawyer Nikolai Polozov wrote this on Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Lawyer Feygin wrote that Umerov would stay in his home before judgment on an appeal.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the so-called prosecutor's office of Crimea of the Russian occupying authorities asked for 3.5 years in prison for Umerov.

In September 2016, the Bakhchisarai District Court in Crimea fined Umerov with RUB 750 for participation in a meeting of the Mejlis.

In May 2016, Mejlis reported about detention of Ilmi Umerov by Russian special services in the annexed by Russia Crimea.

Later in August, the Russian court in the annexed Crimea forced Ilmi Umerov to undergo a psychiatric examination.
