Police Start Investigation Into Beating Up Reporter Of News Media Holovatiuk In Kyiv

The Kyiv Police have started an investigation into beating up of journalist of the news media Yevhen Holovatiuk by a driver of a Volkswagen Touareg car in Kyiv.

The Kyiv Police wrote this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The incident took place on September 19 on Dehtiarivska street.

A police station of the Shevchenkivskyi district received an alert about a conflict between a pedestrian and a driver that ensured on the road that later spilled over into a fight.

A police crew was dispatched to the scene along with and an investigative squad.

At the scene they found the reporter of the news media who said that he saw a car driving on the road in violation of traffic rules making obstacles to movement of pedestrians and gave a rebuke to a driver.

The driver then left the car and started a quarrel with the reporter that later escalated to a fight causing bodily injuries to the journalist.

The 33-years old driver also filed a complaint in which he stated that he was beaten up by an unknown man as a result of which his arm was broken.

The investigative department of the Shevchenkivskyi Police Department opened a criminal proceeding under Article 125 (intentional light bodily injury) and Article 122 (intentional medium bodily injury) of the Penal Code.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine is concerned over increased number of incidents that involve beating up journalists.
