NATO Office In Ukraine: No Discussions Within Alliance On MAP For Ukraine

The Head of NATO Representation to Ukraine, the Director of the NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov says the Alliance has not discussed the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) for Ukraine.

He said this to Ukrainian News Agency.

He says President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko raised the question of NATO MAP for Ukraine during the visit of the North Atlantic Council to Ukraine on July 2017. The Alliance took the statement for consideration but it has been discussed.

According to him, the Alliance believes that the question of reforms is the priority for Ukraine at present.

Ukraine has an ambitious goal of meeting standards and principles of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by the end of 2020.

"We are here to help with the reform and Ukraine should show its political will and potential of the executives to carry out these ambitious reforms. Ukraine already has a unique and valuable instrument for approaching NATO - the annual national program," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze says the annual national program Ukraine - NATO for 2018 will be drawn under the principles of the NATO MAP.

President Poroshenko states that Ukraine unilaterally implements the NATO MAP less its formal approval.
