Verkhovna Rada member Oleksandr Onyschenko (non-affiliated) intends to run for president in 2019.

He said this in an interview with the Washington Times, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to Onyschenko, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko sees him as a strong political opponent.

According to Onyschenko, for this reason President Poroshenko will take efforts to deprive the rival of his financial assets and to force the rival leave Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 5, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada gave assent for the apprehension, arrest and criminal prosecution of MP Onyschenko (then from the Will of People deputy group) following a petition from the Prosecutor General's Office.

Interpol has refused to put MP Onyschenko on the international wanted list.

Onyschenko is suspected of committing crimes qualified by Section 4 of Article 28, Section 5 of Article 191, Section 1 of Article 255, Section 4 of Article 28, and Section 2 of Article 205 of the Penal Code between January 2013 and January 2016.

According to Director of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine Artem Sytnyk, operation of companies associated with Onyschenko, while performing joint operation agreements with UkrGasVydobuvannya, caused UAH 3 billion damage on the State.
