OHCHR: Poroshenko's Initiatives On Financial Reporting Of NGOs And On Blocking Social Networks Restrict Freedom Of Expression

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights says the initiatives of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on financial reporting of non-government organizations and on blocking social networks will affect the freedom of expression in Ukraine.

This is said in a report of OHCHR on human rights situation in Ukraine for May 16 - August 15, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Parliament's Representative for Human Rights Valeriya Lutkovska and human rights organizations consider possible introduction of additional financial reporting for non-government organizations as violation of their rights and discrimination.

On May 16, President Poroshenko enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on sanctions against 1,228 individuals and 468 legal entities.

In particular, Ukraine banned Mail.ru, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Yandex services in Ukraine.

President Poroshenko calls for further reduction in presence of Russian social media platforms, search engines and websites in the Ukrainian segment of the Internet.
