Russia: Language Provisions Within Ukraine's Education Law Infringe Rights Of Russian-Speaking Population In Ukraine

The Russian Federation considers that language provisions envisioned by the Law of Ukraine On Education infringe rights of Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.

Press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Russia has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Russia admits that restrictions on use of languages of national minorities may entail their total exclusion from the educational system of Ukraine by 2020.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman has urged Education and Science Minister of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych and Foreign Affairs Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin to hold consultations with ambassadors of the European Union and discuss language terms within the new wording of the Law of Ukraine On Education.

Earlier, the Republic of Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Republic of Moldova expressed concerns over infringement of rights of national minorities in Ukraine by the new wording of the education law.
