Foreign Ministry Checking Reports About Transfer Of Ukrainian Film Director Sentsov Convicted In Russia To Maximum Security Labor Camp In Irkutsk

Russia, prison, MFA, Oleh Sentsov

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is checking reports saying Oleh Sentsov, a Ukrainian film director convicted in Russia, has been transferred to a maximum security labor camp in Irkutsk, Russia.

Spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine Mariyana Betsa has written this on Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"...we demand to free the Ukrainian political prisoners," she wrote.

Human right activist Zoya Svetova has written on her Facebook page that Sentsov must have been transferred from Yakutsk to the maximum security labor camp in Irkutsk.

Svetova wrote that the Russian authorities refused to confirm or refute the transfer.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, Russia once again refused to transfer Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko to Ukraine.

The Supreme Court of Russia on June 1, 2016 refused to reconsider Sentsov's sentence to 20 years in a maximum security penal colony and Kolchenko's sentence to 10 years of deprivation of freedom.
