NBU's International Reserves Up 1.3% To USD 18 Billion In August

In August, international reserves of the National Bank of Ukraine rose by 1.3% to USD 18.035 billion month over month.

Press service of the central bank has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Last time, the volume of international reserves exceeded the said indicator early in 2014. The level of international reserves now is 16% higher as against the data available as at early 2017. In particular, in August, the reserves rose by USD 240 million or 1.3%," the NBU said.

In August, reserves volume changes thanks to earnings worth USD 351.5 million in favor of the Government from offering of foreign currency-denominated domestic government loan bonds; payments of the NBU in favor of the International Monetary Fund worth USD 448.7 million; payments of the Government for servicing and redemption of the state debt denominated in foreign currency for USD 50.1 million.

Thanks to favorable external economic situation for the Ukrainian exports, in August, the NBU acquired USD 285.3 million.

Besides, on August 31, the NBU conducted one foreign currency auction at which it sold USD 44.3 million.

As at September 1, the international reserves volume covers 3.6 months of future imports.

Since January 2017, international reserves rose by 16% from USD 15.5 billion to USD 18 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2016, NBU's international reserves rose by 17% to USD 15.5 billion.
