The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sees Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement on the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas as another attempt to picture the Russian aggression as Ukraine's internal conflict.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave the position in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says President Putin's statement is also an attempt to distort the very idea and goals of the UN peacekeeping mission.

The Ministry says the Russian position will not facilitate achievement of the main goal of the possible peacekeeping mission - sustainable peace in Donbas and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The statement reads that Ukraine has always defended its clear position that any international peacekeeping presence can be introduced with consent from Ukraine and after consultations with Ukraine. A peacekeeping operation must foresee withdrawal of all occupational troops and mercenaries and their weapons from Ukraine, provide reliable control of the Russia-Ukraine state border to prevent from any supplies of Russian weapons and military equipment to the territory of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says participation of military or other Russian personnel in the UN peacekeeping mission is out of the question.

The Ministry says any consent from the illegal armed formations to the UN peacekeeping mission is out of the question also.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Russian President Putin says he supports the idea of peacekeepers of the United Nations in Donbas if they are deployed at the contact line for provision of security of the OSCE monitors.

He says that the major function of the UN peacekeepers must be provision of security of monitors of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.

President Putin says the UN should receive consents from representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk's People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic to deployment of the UN peacekeepers.
