Former permanent representative of Ukraine to the Organization of United Nations (UN) Yurii Serheev states that the statement of former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to President of Russia Vladimir Putin in which he invited Putin to invade Ukraine is now the official document of the UN Council.

Serheev said this during questioning at the Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to Serheev, this fact excludes any insinuations about the authenticity of the aforesaid letter of Yanukovych to Putin.

Serheev also said that after Russia annexed Crimea, Ukraine called a closed meeting of the UN Council held on February 28, 2014, and an open meeting held on March 1, 2014.

At the March 1, 2014 meeting, permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitalii Churkin read out a statement of "head" of Russia-annexed Crimea Aksenov to Putin about brining troops in Ukraine.

Then at the March 3, 2014 meeting, Churkin demonstrated the aforesaid statement from Yanukovych to Putin.

Serheev considers the March 3, 2014 meeting of the UN Council a benchmark event in the development of Russian aggression in Crimea.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Tuesday, the Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv continued hearing of lawsuit against Yanukovych accused of high treason.
