HQCJ Picks Winners In Competition For New Supreme Court

The High Qualification Commission of Judges has selected winners in the competition for the new Supreme Court of Ukraine.

The HQCJ endorsed the decision at its sitting on July 27, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The HQCJ had removed several candidates from the competition, including incumbent Supreme Court Chief Justice Yaroslav Romaniuk who requested the Commission to do so as he is intending to step down.

The rating list of the candidates will be posted on the official website of the High Qualification Commission of Judges.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 6, the High Qualification Commission of Judges began considering vetoes of the Public Integrity Council regarding selection candidates running for the new Supreme Court of Ukraine.

The Public Integrity Council has vetoed selection of over 100 candidates.

On February 16, 2017, the HQCJ started testing candidates for positions of judges of the new Supreme Court.

On November 7, 2016, the HQCJ announced the start of the competition for the new Supreme Court to select 120 judges.
