Dmytro Fuchedzhi, former deputy head of the Odesa regional office of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Ukraine, has received a Russian passport.
Serhii Horbatiuk, the head of special investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, told this to Ukrainian News Agency.
Fuchedzhi is suspected of involvement in the riots that took tens of lives in Odesa on May 2, 2014.
"Yes, this is true. The answer from Russia came several days ago (that Fuchedzhi has been granted Russian citizenship)," he said.
According to him, Russia has denied Ukraine extradition of Fuchedzhi because he is a Russian citizen.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Petro Poroshenko has asked Russia to extradite Fuchedzhy.
The Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv has rejected a motion of the Prosecutor General's Office on special (in-absentia) investigation against Fuchedzhi.
