Appeal Court Refuses To Increase Huzhva's Bail From UAH 0.5 Million To UAH 3.2 Million

The Kyiv Appeal Court has refused to increase the bail for Strana.ua editor-in-chief Ihor Huzhva from UAH 0.5 million to UAH 3.2 million.

Judge Ihor Palenyk announced this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The court rejected appeals from both the defense and prosecutors.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 22, law enforcement officers detained Huzhva on suspicion of demanding a bribe from Dmytro Lynko, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the Radical Party of Oleh Liashko.

The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv ordered detention of Huzhva on June 24 and set bail at UAH 544,000.

The Strana.ua online publication's Deputy Editor-in-Chief Svitlana Kriukova posted bail for Huzhva on June 26.

Huzhva was freed on June 27.

The Kyiv prosecutor's office filed an appeal against the amount of the bail on June 30, demanding its increase from UAH 544,000 to UAH 3.2 million.

Huzhva announced on July 3 that the Presidential Administration was exerting pressure on Appeal Court judges to increase the amount of the bail.
