EU Supporting Idea Of Anticorruption Chamber At Supreme Court

President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker says the European Union supports the idea of an anticorruption chamber in the Supreme Court.

He gave the position at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of the European Council Donald Tusk in Kyiv on July 13, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The President of the European Commission emphasized that the issue of fighting corruption in Ukraine remains crucial.

"I know that the Ukrainian President is very serious about this issue. Both the President and the Parliament have made everything necessary and achieved progress in this sphere, but the situation is not satisfactory... We have agreed with establishment of a Special Anti-Corruption Chamber [in the Supreme Court] designed to struggle against corruption and we do not insist on the establishment of a separate Anti-Corruption Court," he said.

The President of the European Commission noted that fighting corruption is one of the biggest problems that need more efforts.

"For this reason we have suggested the President of Ukraine today some temporary steps for resolving the problem. The European Union used to demand from Ukraine establishment of a special court to tackle the corruption cases. This morning we agreed that if Ukraine establishes a special chamber in charge of the problem, this will do," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union used to urge Ukraine to establish the Anticorruption Court as soon as possible.
