Constitutional Court To Continue Checking Constitutionality Of Law Stripping Yanukovych Of President Title On July 11

On July 11, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine will continue consideration of constitutionality of the law stripping Viktor Yanukovych of the President title.

The Constitutional Court announced this in a posting on its website, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The court session will begin at 10 a.m. and will be closed for public.

On February 4, 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deprived Viktor Yanukovych of the title 'President'.

Article 105 of the Constitution reads that the title of 'President' is guarded by the law and is given for life if a president is not dismissed from the post under the impeachment procedures.

Under Article 108 of the Fundamental Law, President's powers can be discontinued ahead of time in the event of: resignation, impossibility to discharge duties for reasons of health; ousting through impeachment; or death.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the law depriving Yanukovych of the title 'President' took effect on June 18, 2015.

On June 19, 2015, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko submitted his constitutional motion to the Constitutional Court with a request to check the constitutionality of the law depriving Yanukovych the title.

On October 19, 2016, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine commenced consideration of constitutionality of the law stripping Viktor Yanukovych of the President title.
