Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov says law enforcement agencies prevented another Petya.A virus attack on July 4.

The Minister wrote this on his Facebook page, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

While investigating into the Petya.A virus attack of June 27 law enforcers have established that the information systems of Ukrainian companies were hit due to an update of M.E.Doc software.

According to the Minister, representatives of the company, which has developed the software, were informed about weaknesses in their systems, but they ignored the warning. For this reason law enforcers decided to carry out searches and take their equipment.

The Minister says cyber police strongly suggest all users change passwords and e-signatures.

According to a theory of the investigation, the targets of the cyber attack were strategically important companies. The cyber attack pursued destabilization of the situation in Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the National Bank of Ukraine says some 30 Ukrainian banks were hit by the cyber attack on June 27, 2017.

The Security Service of Ukraine has established involvement of Russian secret services in the Petya.A virus attack on a number of Ukrainian companies and banks of June 27.
