Huzhva: SBU Opens Criminal Case Against Strana.ua For Interference In Private Life Of MP Anton Heraschenko

The Security Service of Ukraine has opened a criminal case against the Strana.ua internet newspaper for interference in the private life of Member of Parliament Anton Heraschenko from the faction of the People's Front.

Ihor Huzhva, editor-in-chief of Strana.ua internet newspaper, aid this at a press conference at the press center of Ukrainian News Agency, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Another criminal case is being fabricated against us. This is the case on interference in private life of politician, Member of Parliament Anton Heraschenko," he said.

Ihor Huzhva says the newspaper has written several articles where MP Anton Heraschenko was mentioned, including an article about a flat and an expensive car purchased by the MP.

"Anton Heraschenko has written a statement and they are trying to fabricate a case against our journalists on interference in private life," he said.

"The society wants to know important things and about the level of expenses of politicians, this or others. They want to know which car they drive, what kind of flats they live in and how this meets their official income declarations. This is information which is important for the public and it is regarded as such worldwide," he said.

The Strana.ua internet newspaper sees the criminal case as continuation of pressure on it.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Strana.ua internet newspaper says pressure from the side of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies continues and calls on Ambassadors of G7 and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine to protect the newspaper.
