Strana.ua Seeking Protection From G7 Ambassadors And EU Delegation To Ukraine

The Strana.ua internet newspaper says pressure from the side of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies continues and calls on Ambassadors of G7 and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine to protect the newspaper.

Svitlana Kriukova, deputy editor-in-chief, said this at a press conference at the press center of Ukrainian News Agency, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We are requesting for attention and protection. We are calling on You, dear Ambassadors of G7 and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine to pay attention to the pressure on our outlet. We are ready for a dialogue. We are ready to disclose all details of the case," she said.

She says the collective of the newspaper is struggling for its existence and the freedom of speech in Ukraine.

"If the authorities manage to destroy us, the pressure on the other Ukrainian mass media will increase dramatically. This is crucial for the authorities to create a precedent which will enable comfortable and easy elections in future," she said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 24, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv ordered a detention of Huzhva with the alternative of a bail of UAH 544,000.

On June 26, Svitlana Kriukova, deputy editor-in-chief of the Strana.ua internet newspaper, posted the bail for Ihor Huzhva, editor-in-chief of Strana.ua.

On June 27, Ihor Huzhva was released from the remand prison in Kyiv.
