Court Permits In-Absentia Trial Of Yanukovych Case

The Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv has permitted a special (in-absentia trial) of high-treason case against former president Viktor Yanukovych.

Head Judge Vladyslav Deviatko has said this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, Deviatko said that considering that Yanukovych was informed about the Thursday's court hearing and failed to appear in court without reasonable excuse, the court upheld a motion from the prosecution team and granted the in-absentia trial for the case.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the court had accepted the indictment of former president Viktor Yanukovych for on merits trial and refused to allow special (in absentia) court proceedings in the case.
