Lawyer: Search In Office Strana.ua Internet Paper Not Authorized By Investigating Judge

Lawyer Yurii Ivaschenko says law enforcement agencies are carrying out a search in the office of Strana.ua internet paper without any order from investigating judge.

He wrote this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"It appears that the search in the office of Strana.ua is being carried out without any permission from investigating judge. There are no legal grounds for the search," he wrote.

The lawyer called on judges of courts in Kyiv not to recognize the results of the illegal search.

Yurii Ivaschenko says he and his colleagues will be defending the position of Strana.ua, as he considers a matter of principle.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov says the National Police is not involved in the case against Ihor Huzhva, editor-in-chief of Strana.ua.

On June 22, law enforcement agencies arrested Ihor Huzhva on suspicion of blackmail.

Ahead of his arrest Ihor Huzhva said law enforcement agencies carried out searches in the office of Strana.ua internet paper. He linked the searches with critical articles concerning Member of Parliament Dmytro Linko from the faction of the Radical Party of Oleh Liashko.
