Law Quashing Shortening Of Sentence In Prison Under Savchenko's Law Comes In Force

law, prison, detention, Savchenko law

The law that abolishes the possibility of reduction of a sentence in prison under the so-called Savchenko's law (the law that counts one day in preliminary detention as two days of the main sentence) comes in force.

The law was published in the official newspaper of the Verkhovna Rada Holos Ukrainy on June 20 and takes effect the day following the publication, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, according to the revised law, preliminary detention counts in the main sentence in prison only at the one-for-one-day ratio.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 18, the Rada quashed the Savchenko's law that envisaged the possibility of reduction of a sentence in prison.
