The State Bailiff Service seized 100% of the authorized capital of the Gazprom Sbyt Ukraine limited liability company, which is a subsidiary of the Gazprom gas (Russia), as part of an effort to recover the fine of UAH 172 billion that the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) imposed on Gazprom plus penalty on May 29.

This is stated in a June 9 ruling by the Kyiv Economic Court, which rejected Gazprom's request to invalidate the seizure, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The Gazprom Sbyt Ukraine limited liability company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gazprom that was established for supply of natural gas to Ukrainian industrial consumers under an agreement between Gazprom and the Naftogaz of Ukraine national energy company on development of relations in the gas industry dated March 12, 2008.

Gazprom Sbyt Ukraine has an authorized capital of UAH 1 million.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Higher Economic Court rejected Gazprom's request to cancel the fine of UAH 172 billion on May 16.

The bailiff service has begun proceedings to recover UAH 172 billion in fines and penalties from Gazprom and seize its assets on Ukrainian territory.

On June 6, the Kyiv Economic Court authorized the State Bailiff Service to seize UAH 79.877 million in dividends payable to Gazprom from the Gaztransit private joint-stock company (Kyiv) as part of the effort to recover the fine of UAH 172 billion.

Gazprom owns 40.2% of the shares in the Ukrainian public joint-stock company Gaztransit, the Naftogaz of Ukraine national energy company owns 40.2%, and the Turusgas company (Turkey) owns 19.5652%.
