PGO, SBU, Police Raid Ukrzaliznytsia In Connection With Case Involving Embezzlement Of UAH 12.8 Million, Fictitious Repair Of Rolling Stock

Officers from the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the Security Service of Ukraine’s Main Directorate for Counter-Intelligence Protection of State Economic Interests, and the Kyiv regional police have raided the locomotive department of the Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) in connection with a case involving embezzlement of UAH 12.8 million and performance of fictitious repairs of rolling stock.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The Prosecutor General's Office suspects one of the heads of Ukrzaliznytsia’s locomotive department of committing a crime punishable under Section 2 of Article 364 of the Penal Code (abuse of power or official position). In particular, he is suspected of embezzling more than UAH 12 million by providing false information about possible use of spare parts for locomotives proposed by certain economic entities in official documents.

According to investigators, it has been established that the quality of the spare parts that were supplied did not allow them to be used.

In addition, branches of Ukrzaliznytsia are also being investigated on suspicion of misappropriating funds by transferring them into accounts of fictitious enterprises as payment for repair of rolling stock that was not performed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Prosecutor General's Office raided the Production Support Center, which is a division of Ukrzaliznytsia, in March.

Police are investigating Ukrzaliznytsia officials suspected of overstating the purchase price of freight gondola cars by UAH 185 million.

Ukrzaliznytsia considers the police’s decision to open criminal proceedings against officials suspected of overstating the purchase price of freight gondola cars unjustified.
