Rada Supports Establishment Of Energy Efficiency Fund On June 8

On June 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the establishment of the Energy Efficiency Fund.

A total of 278 parliamentary members backed respective bill No. 5598, when 226 votes enough to pass the decision, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the bill, the Energy Efficiency Fund will be established as a legal entity as well as a state-run enterprise in order to facilitate general energy saving in the end-consumption of energy resources.

The Fund will be able to attract financial contributions and competitive grant from governments, agencies and foreign institutions under respective agreement.

The Fund itself will provide loans and grants to legal entities and individuals for implementation of energy efficiency projects, financial assessment and estimation of risks of such projects.

Besides, the Fund will be able to monitor and appraise quality of measures on raising energy efficiency.

End beneficiaries of the Fund's financing will be owners/co-owners of buildings or other persons authorized to take decisions to hold running repairs or overhauls, reconstruction, restoration and technical reequipment of respective buildings.

The financing will be rendered if energy efficiency certificate of a building to be modernized is provided.

In compliance with the bill, the founder of the Energy Efficiency Fund will be the state represented by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 21, the Verkhovna Rada supported the bill on the Energy Efficiency Fund in first reading.

The Ukrainian Parliament has allocated UAH 400 million for the launch and functioning of the Energy Efficiency Fund in 2017.
