The Dutch Senate (the upper house of parliament) has ratified the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

The relevant decision was approved without a debate by 50 members of the Senate and apposed by 25, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Thus, all member states of the European Union have ratified the association agreement with Ukraine.

The instruments of ratification must now be sent to the King of the Netherlands for signing.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a majority in support of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union emerged in the Dutch Senate during a debate on the document on May 23.

The Netherlands held a referendum on approval of the association agreement on 6 April 2016, in which the majority of the country's citizens voted against approval of the document.

The European Union approved a decision on completion of the ratification of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union at a summit on December 15, 2016.

Taking into account the outcome of the Dutch referendum of 6 April 2016, the heads of state and government of the 28 member states of the European Union adopted at a summit of the European Council a decision stating that the purpose of the association agreement is to establish close and lasting relations between the European Union and Ukraine on the basis of common values, but it does not grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership of the European Union and does not oblige the granting of such status to Ukraine in the future.

As a result, the House of Representatives (the lower house of parliament) of the Netherlands ratified the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on February 23.

All other member states of the European Union have ratified the association agreement with Ukraine.
