The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice intend to ban use of the police word in names of non-governmental organizations and municipal companies.

The Internal Ministry's Communications Department Director Artem Shevchenko has written this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

He said that upon careful legal analysis and a letter from Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov to Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko an agreement was reached to ban use of the police word in names of the aforesaid organizations.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in April, Druzhkivka City Council (Donetsk region) dismissed head of the so-called municipal police Serhii Berezhnyi, who, according to earlier reports by the media, headed the city's militia during the period of the city's occupation by militants of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.

In May, Mayor of Dnipro Borys Filatov appointed former commander of local Berkut riot police squadron Andrii Tkachenko to the post of head of the municipal police.
