2,300 Policemen And Prosecutors Engaged In Searches In 15 Regions In Case Against Former Leaders Of Tax Service

Close to 2,300 policemen and prosecutors are taking part in 454 searches in 15 regions of Ukraine in case against former leaders of the State Tax Service suspected of tax evasion worth UAH 97 billion.

Deputy Prosecutor General / Chief Military Prosecutor Anatolii Matios announced this at a news briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The operation is underway right now against 15 heads of regional offices of the Tax Service and their deputies," he said.

According to the Chief Military Prosecutor, 1,700 policemen and 500 military prosecutors are taking part in the search in 220 flats, 54 houses, 36 garages, and 85 cars.

Law enforcement agencies have arrested 23 former leaders of the regional offices of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties, including the heads of the Luhansk regional office, the Dnipropetrovsk regional office, the Dnipropetrovsk city office, the Crimean office. Heads of nearly all tax inspections of Kyiv have been arrested as well.

The former leaders of the State Tax Service are being brought to Kyiv by helicopters from regions.

The prosecutors have established that they caused the State damaged of close to UAH 97 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Prosecutor General's Office is investigating in a case against Gizo Uglava, the first deputy director of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine, who is suspected of tax evasion and concealing the citizenship of Georgia
