The Verkhovna Rada has refused to recommend that the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) impose sanctions against former president Viktor Yanukovych, former prime minister Mykola Azarov and 19 more persons.
A total of 202 parliamentary members backed respective draft resolution No. 5350, when 226 votes enough to pass the decision, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Besides, Yanukovych and Azarov it was expected to impose sanctions against former minister of interior affairs Vitalii Zakharchenko and his deputy Viktor Ratushniak; former prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka and his son Artem; son of Azarov - Oleksii Azarov; former minister of energy and coal industry Eduard Stavytskyi; former minister of agrarian policy and food Mykola Prysiazhniuk and former vice prime minister / former health minister Raisa Bohatyriova, etc.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 12, European Parliament member / co-chair of the Greens–European Free Alliance group in the European parliament Rebecca Harms stated that the Council of the European Union is considering an opportunity to extend the term of sanctions against Russia from six to twelve months.
