Ambassadors of the European Union and the United States call on the police and the Kyiv City Administration to protect rights of participants of the LGBT Equality March on June 18.

This is said in the joint statement of the ambassadors of Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Great Britain and the United States issued in connection with the International Day Against Homophobia, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The ambassadors also call on all Ukrainians to respect rights of their fellow citizens for peaceful gathering.

The statement says that the diplomatic community will observe the march and join its ranks, in this way upholding equality and human rights.

The ambassadors urge civil society and businesses also to demonstrate their support.

The envoys said they hoped for safe and peaceful March of Equality in Kyiv and the like events in other populated points in Ukraine, and also they expect further steps in the direction to ensure equal rights for all Ukrainians.

In particular, on May 17, several diplomatic missions in Kyiv intend to fly a rainbow flag on their buildings as a sign of solidarity with the International Day Against Homophobia.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Member of the European Parliament Rebecca Harms said an estimated 5,000 people will take part in the LGBT March of Equality in Kyiv on June 18.
