InAU Estimating Total Cost Of European Model Of Blocking Access To Russian Websites At USD 1 Billion

The Ukrainian Internet Association (InAU) estimates the cost of implementing of the European model for blocking of internet access to the sanctioned Russian online resources at USD 1 billion for all providers.

Chairperson of the InAU Oleksandr Fedienko told this to journalists, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"If we take the European model as a standard and follow it as an example, it will take over one year to implement, for sure, and approximately USD 1 billion for all country and all providers," he said.

He also noted that there are over 5,000 of official internet providers in Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the InAU states blocking of sanctioned Russian websites is technically impossible.

President Petro Poroshenko enacted a decision of the National Council of Security and Defense that expanded sanctions against 1,228 individuals and 468 legal entities and required internet providers to block access to internet resource Mail.ru, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Yandex services.

Ukrtelecom started works to implement measures restricting access to the sanctioned Russian websites.

Russia-based 1C business software company states the sanctions will not impact servicing of the accountancy software.

Founded in 2005, Mail.Ru Group is a Russian technological company with its assets including VKontakte and Odnoklassniki social networks, ICQ and Mail.Ru Agent instance messengers, Mail.Ru electronic mail service, Mail.Ru and My.Com web-portals and their tools.
